DAMIÁN BURNEO SOTOMAYOR

Throughout his engineering career, Damián has developed an interdisciplinary background, building strong skills in project management, team leadership, and coordinating impactful territorial initiatives. He has coordinated multiple sustainable development initiatives with measurable impact in local communities. His academic specialization lies in the fields of development economics and environmental engineering.
Damián’s passion for multicultural environments has taken him to over 30 countries, where he has participated in volunteer projects across three continents: Africa (Camerún), Europe (Spain), and South America (Brazil—Argentina—Ecuador).
Since 2020, Damián has led sustainable development projects through participatory action research, in partnership with the University of Cuenca, with a focus on inclusive circular economy and bioeconomy. One of his key contributions was the design and implementation of a three-year project (RUMBOS – U Cuenca) that focuses on the economic and productive development of recyclers in three regions of Ecuador: the Coast, the Highlands and the Amazon as part of their strengthening in the recycling and waste management value chain.
Damián’s unwavering commitment to climate justice and social responsibility has led him to work in diverse contexts, where he consistently promotes sustainable, inclusive, and community-driven solutions.
